I am not referring to the monetary value in measuring poverty.

  1. EVERYBODY IN THE U.S. IS RICH.

  2. The fact that you can afford to have internet access at home means you definitely do not live below the poverty line.

  3. In my country (I live in a 3rd world country), poverty is measured by a family's daily wage versus the perceived minimum daily amount for a family of 5 to live decently and comfortably. This is called the poverty threshold. Go below that amount and you are already living in poverty.

That is the most common way. However, these statistics are also used: Number of school drop-outs (most often caused by lack of money to support schooling), literacy rate, rate of inflation (which directly affects incomes and hits hardest those with low incomes), number of jobless, number of people going abroad to work, and also income distribution.

EDIT: I found this useful link of definitions of poverty incidence, subsistence incidence, etc. http://econdb.pids.gov.ph/index.php?opti...

Poverty is very much tied with income, unfortunately.
