There are several months in the year when you should not eat shellfish. What are those months.?

I am a former chef from Canada and have worked on both coasts the west in Vancouver BC and in Halifax NS on the east, and the first girl is correct, but in many ways it is due to fact they spawn and there is an issue in the east and west (California) with this, it applies mostly to oyster, mussels, clams and other bi-valves are not as prone to this, soft shell crabs are harvested when the Maryland Blue Crabs shed there winter shell, they fish them for few short days to cull the stock and to serve as soft shell items, it is more Mother nature thing, and old traditions to, but mainly the other issues I spoke of. Red tide a bacterial problem to can force them to restrict there harvesting of shellfish at times.


  2. You're not supposed to eat oysters in months without a "r", basically, the hot summer months of May, June, July and August.
