All of which were before humans were alive. There has been a warming cycle after all of them and countless warming cycles when there was no ice age. Why is this one different or at least according to Al Gore who is not a scientist different

  1. Al Gore claims that the major cause of the current warming trend is anthropogenic (caused by human activity).  Previous warming events have not been attribute to human activities, and rightly so.  That is because the human population was very small during the last warming trend.  Furthermore, the activities of those humans did not produce any compounds that could cause a warming trend.  That is in stark contrast to today's population.

  2. There have been many more than '4 or 5' major ice ages. Scientists have been able to identify dozens of them but the details are arcane difficult to convey to the public. They get strange names often based on some obscure stream or landmark where the identifying sediments were logged.

Please ignore anyone who claims the current spike in warming is a 'hoax'. Only those who have a substantial interest in the status quo are suggesting that (oil companies, coal companies, etc.). You do not have to be a scientist to understand the abundant physical, chemical, and climatological data collected over the last several decades.

This warming cycle IS different. Primarily because there weren't several billion humans living in a heavily industrialized world during any of the past events. Also, the level of greenhouse gasses collecting in the atmosphere is orders of magnitude higher than any previously known. For comparison we have samples of ancient atmospheres from ice cores at the South Pole going back hundreds of thousands of years.

  3. The human-caused-global-warming issue is a hoax. I have provided a link to the Frank Beckmann show where you can see in his Global Warming Library numerous good books and articles to read through. My favorite book on the subject is- Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1,500 Years
