There is a belief that it is impossible to swim from Alcatraz to the mainland. Current/cold.Is this true ?

Has it been done?Has it been done by young or elderly people.?How long does it take to swim?

It's been done, even a child who was out to break the record swam across. Yes it's cold but given the correct temp. wind shield etc, it wouldn't be hard - the sharks that i hear of swimming around there though would be my biggest concern!

It can be done by the trained person and the people in what use to be prison were not able to do cold water training while being locked up

They have a group of people who call themselves polar bears that go swimming in Ice Holes on frozen lakes in the dead of winter in only their underpants kind of swimming trunks

Yes it has been done and yes it is possible.  There was a documentary about it a couple of years ago.
