There is a game,where the numbers of fingers decide the winner.

I should have added the fists are held near then both hands are opened showing X number of fingers how is the winner decided?

Could you be talking about 'rock, paper, scissors' a fist is a rock, a flat hand is paper + 2 fingers in the scissor position are of course scissors.

rock beats (blunts) scissors, scissors beat (cut) paper and paper beats (!) rock.

Well in the old days of Bowmen , after they won a battle the english bowmen would stick up their 2 fingers at the fleeing opposition like a.. 'V'   they did this as any captured bowmen would have their 2 (pointing and middle) fingers cut off .

So raising the 2 fingers meant victory , we still use this gesture today
