  1. well you could carry a stick with you. say you're leading him on his left side, with the lead rope in your right hand. you would carry the stick in your left hand. and everytime his nose got too far infront of you, you would take the stick up and smack his nose. after awhile he will learn not to go ahead of you.

  2. dont be afriad to be aggressive

    back him up

and make him know that you are the boss not him

  3. put a chain around his nose until he can walk with you and not ahead of you.

  4. get one of those chain things and put it on his halter. let him know whos the boss, but in a gentle way.

  5. He certainly wants to run. Try riding him, or let him run for a while. Hope this helps!

  6. It depends. You can go at this different ways.

-If your using a halter and a lead rope try a different lead. Use one that has a chain. There is a way to attach the chain to the halter. If you just clip it on without going over the nose and clipping it on the side then it doesn't work. Ask someone at the barn to show you how.

-Another way is to bribe him. Carry dry treats in your pockets. You know the ones that are pre made with oats and molasses. When he starts to drag take one out. He will pay more attention to you. Use the treat to lead him. He will follow next to you if you hold the treat.

    Hope this Helps!

  7. what you should do when he drags you  is, you should give him an elbow and whack his as$ a few time with the rope until he swings anround and and faces you. then keep making him circleing to face you until you feel he is ready to walk on again. if this doesnt work (which it should) is shake the lead rope and back him up. to the point where he started to drag you.

  8. Backhim up when he drags ypu if he keeps on doing this back him up again if it happens a third time smack him in the chest with the lead rope. when he starts letting you walk him that when you let him know that he is doing good.

  9. You need to basically yank him, let him know you are there and you are in charge.  The other day, this horse would not go threw the gate, his owner is new to horses and not tough with them at all, I went out there to help him, had him shake a rope at the horses butt while I held his halter and tried to lead, well he just backed up and I gave a good yank and he walked thru like a puppy.  You just have to assert yourself, if neccessary grab a shank.

  10. Stand your ground. I dont recommend a chain because that just might agitate your horse even more and he might rear, or kick out. Every time he starts dragging you, spin him in a circle, then if he does that nicely and starts walking, reward him a small treat. good luck ;)

  11. well try riding him more try giving him treats more my horse used to drag me but now i give him treats every second day and i ride him every day and he doesn't any more

  12. If he's dragging you, I'd think stopping him and backing up would be a bit difficult.

First thing:  don't just pull.  He'll always be stronger and you'll always lose. Try pulling and releasing, working up to jerking and releasing and jerking and releasing until he stops.

Another thing to try is holding your ground and pulling his head to the side so he has to turn.  Again, pull and release if necessary so he turns in a circle around you rather than dragging you along in his wake.

You can loop the lead shank chain through the ring on the left side, over the nose, and connect to the ring on the right side.  Don't be afraid to give this a quick jerk, but always release and don't dead pull.

If this doesn't work, ask Christine for some pointers.  Tell her it's intimidating you and you want to do it right.

    Good luck!

  13. back him up when he drags you or make a small circle everytime he does that

  14. turn him around so that he hasn't got a choice as he can't move forward. make him stand up  or smack his nose so that he knows that you are the boss, you need to be able to be the horse's leader othawise they will push you around like they do with other horses in the field

  15. Put a chain over his nose and turn him out like that! Don't be afraid to snatch him once to get his respect!
