  1. The people of Zimbabwe do not want a return to colonial rule no matter what sanctions are being applied at the moment to ruin their economy and discredit their elected leaders. Protest instead about these sanctions that are ruining a black country if you feel like some good.

  2. Why don't you got to the Number Ten Downing Street website and start a petition?  It's what everyone else seems to do, including that crowd who want to build a Mosque the size of Yorkshire or something.  Well, good for them.  A few more million names on their petition, and bingo, UK.gov cash flows in.  Well, that's the theory anyway.

  3. Amanda:

Where on Earth did you get the idea that Mugabe is a Marxist-Leninist, or is it just an incantation to make you feel good and safe?

Have you any idea what a Marxist-Leninist is? Do you think it's a posh way of saying "nasty man"?

In fact, have you any idea what you're talking about?

  4. That would be great, however I think the government are probably aware of the facts and are probably biding their time for whatever reasons - I sincerely hope so anyway!

  5. Mr Mugabe is a democratically elected Marxist-Leninist and is, therefore sacred. Look what happened when that nasty General Pinochet overthrew the democratically elected Marxist-Leninist Dr Allende.

Mugabe is a self proclaimed Marxist-Leninist.

  6. Write a letter to your local MP in the first instance, asking him to raise the matter in Parliament.  However, I feel that's probably been done before on this issue!

So write to the Prime Minister, the Foreign Secretary and any other relevant ministers you can think of.  They always reply in the end, although it takes some time!  And then at least you have made your views known.

You could also start up an online petition at the PM's online petition site, and publicise it to ensure lots of signatures.  Reading your question again, I think this is the information you wanted in the first place! Go to this website and click, 'create a petition'.

  7. You might want to post a question regarding Zimbabwe at myverdict.net.

  8. That might make you feel good in yourself sure enough.

Soon after independence, when Robert Mugabe was elected (democratically) as president, there were tens of thousands of dirt-poor ndebele people killed by the Zimbabwean army for "supporting dissidents". I remember that time - there were very few reports in the world media, and it was quickly forgotten about.

The reason for the lack of interest? Mugabe had not turned out to be the mad marxist the west feared and did not threaten any of the western companies which had huge investments in mining minerals, such as vast quantities of chrome. They're still there by the way, still digging the minerals out with little benefit to local africans. That's why the west won't do anything - they've no interest in it.

When a handful of white farmers were murdered, we got endless coverage of the plight of these people, and a throw-in about some of the more despicable acts of Mugabe against poor people as an afterthought. I don't think I'm the only one who sees the hypocrisy here.

Also the slur that africans are so stupid that they don't know how to farm the land they've been farming for hundreds of years.

I bet you didn't think of setting up a petition, or for that matter protesting in any way when the ndebeles were being killed. Did anybody? Should we mention that dirty word RACISM here?
