ok i was looking at the under side of my boat today and i noticed a very weird growth. At first i thought it might be an egg sack from a fish. however when i touched it immediately knew this wasn't the case. The growth was a clear gelatin like substance on the under side and along the visible spots to open water the substance had a weird brown pattern can anyone shed some light on to what this might be if not i will try to take pictures.

  1. Its from bill cosby

  2. It is algae. remove the boat from the water and power wash it away. Then treat the bottom with algacide or paint with anti fouling paint.

  3. Yup, that is algae.  You have a couple of options.

    1.  Assuming your boat has a trailer, pull it out and pressure wash it, put back in.  Hint (do not let it dry on your boat - gets rather tough)

    2.  Get into your SCUBA gear, attack it with a soft material (rag, sponge) or if it is definitely hard to get off, use a scrubby type pad.

Sounds like you should have some sort of anti-fouling paint on your hull.  This by the way, does not really prevent this formation.

I clean hulls locally and see a lot of this, usually takes a couple years to get this way.
