Next to my house there is a small construction site where they keep 2 dumpsters a few piles of CMU blocks and a 2 piles of sand. There is a wild kitten who has been crying there and I can't catch him to help him. He hides as soon as he knows someone is approaching the vicinity. My husband and I have left water, turkey breast slices because we did not have kitten food (he ate it) or kitten milk and a box for him to hide in when it rains. I know his mother has left him because its been 3 days since I started to hear him cry - that's probably why he's crying.

He is so afraid of humans that he is very aware of our every move, which makes it so hard to find him within the construction site. I'm afraid when construction starts tomorrow they might hurt him or scare him into the traffic on the street or even worse, call animal control. I would rather find him and take care of him myself than let someone send him to be put to sleep.

I don't know how else to lure him out from his hiding place or to make him trust me enough to mew when I approach. We've tried finding him for 3 days and were only able to see him from our bedroom window so far. I don't want him to die because of a construction accident. What can I do now?

  1. u can put a can of cat food on the ground and see if the kitty want it!

  2. Your local humane society will loan you a humane trap, no harm to the kitten.

  3. you could get a possum trap, you know the kind that you attach food to and when something eats the food the door shuts and the animal is trapped inside without it being hurt. that's the only thing i can think of. poor kitten :(

  4. 1. Go talk to the workers, and try to appeal to their animal-friendly feelings, and tell them to be careful or even help you.

    2. Keep putting food there forhim, somewhere safe.

    3. If they call animal control, ask to be there, so that animal control can give the kitten to you. Wouldn't they?

    4. I've heard of the term cat trap. I don't know exactly what it is, but a hungry kitten will probably get into a box to eat, so perhaps you can get it like that.

    5. Good luck,I hope you can catch the little fellow!

  5. I know it would be against your will, but you would have to call Animal Control. If you can, tell them you'd like to adopt the kitten after its been nursed to health again.

It will hurt, but think of it as doing good for the kitten.

If you DO call Animal Control, please stress that you do not want the kitten to be put down. It would be the rational thing to do.

I myself have been in the same position. Up at my summer home there were a family of kittens hiding in the rocks in front of the house. There was a mother. We left food and milk and ect. Eventually we had to call the Animal Control. We were afraid if they didn't get help they would die during winter. We stressed that they should not get put down. Lone behold, we saw them put up for adoption a month later.

    Hope I helped.

  6. There are companies that rent "humane traps".  These look like a wire cage with a trap door.  The humane society may even come out and set one up for you.  When you see Kitty in the trap, have another, much bigger cage set up in you home complete with water and a litter box.  Let him out into this and then you can begin to teach him to trust you by giving him food and getting him used to your presence in his life.  This is a wonderful thing that you are doing.  Be patient and you will be rewarded with a loving pet.

  7. Get a live trap. My dad traps skunks all the time with one and our cats usually end up in them or a stray.
