I have never had a kitten that has gotten ears mites. The stiff is hard and crunchy...could it be blood cause by ears mites or something else? or just dried up ear wax?

  1. Cat and dog ear mites usually cause intense itching. Inside the ear you’ll notice a dark red-brown or black, crusty and crumbly discharge. Dog ear mites or cat ear mites will cause your pet to shake its head and scratch its ears. The scratching can become so vigorous that your pet scratches its eyes and the first thing you notice is a tearing, squinting, painful eye. As the pet scratches, bacteria and yeast are rubbed into the skin and your pet develops secondary bacterial and yeast infections. The ear discharge will become stinky and full of pus.

  2. Cats can get ear mites quite easily.  I am guessing that is what it is.  Just take her into the vet and they'll clean them out.  It's not expensive, it's quick, uncomfortable, but painless.

  3. How much of it is there? Earwax rarely crusts up kitten's ears. If it does, there tends to be an underlying reason, such as an infection, or mites. If your kitty is holding her head at an angle, it may be an infection. If she's scratching her ears a lot, it's possibly mites. It's unlikely to be dried blood, as there'd have to be a lot of it and it would have stained your furniture first.

It's best to take her to a vet to get checked out - even if it's not mites, earwax is pretty uncomfortable for a cat.

  4. If it's Dark Brown to Black it could be ear mites. Ear mites give off a smell and cause some bleeding and discomfort, if it's that you can just call the vet and pick up a bottle of ear mite ear cleaner...

Other then that it could be just an abundance of ear wax. Go to a pet shop and get an ear cleaner with low quantities of Boric and Salicylic acid.

If you want a brand name Bio-Groom is what I use with my cats and kittens, I got it at a local pet shop for 12 dollars or so :)

  5. That sounds like ear mites to me. I had an issue with two cats I have spreading it to each other and I had never seen it before. I thought they were bleeding and the "dark stuff" was dried blood. It was a very scary incident for me. I actually took them in to the vet and basicaly all they did was wipe out their ears with swabs and give me some ear mite solution.

Since then I have had one more problem and simply went to the store and purchased ear mite medication myself. Cleaned out the ears with swabs daily and used med as prescribed. Worked for me and cheaper than the vet visit was.

I hope that you figure out what the problem is with your kitten. I would think it doubtable that your kitten's ear could be "that" filthy out of nowhere. Is your kitten scratching his ears a lot? That is a huge give-a-way that ear mites may play a part in it.

  6. my kitten had the same thing and it turned out he had ear mites.......it might be that or it could be dried up ear wax...but just to be safe i would bring your kitten to the vet.

  7. It sounds like mites to me and there are some meds that you can get from pet stores that work pretty well. You might want to get some Q-tips to clean the ear part but do not put it in the ear canal. If the cat struggles a lot you might need a second hand to clean the ears and put the drops in.

  8. im a expert on cats its dried ear wax go to the vet to have them cleaned
