There is huge potential for growth for England cricket: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flower-c44362
The England team director Andy Flower reckoned there is huge potential for growth for England cricket as they are targeting the number one spot in every format of the game.
"I think we have done good things in my two years as head coach, but there is huge potential for growth for England cricket,” said Flower who has recently renewed his contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board as the team director.
"We are ranked number three, our goal is to be ranked number one and for us to get there we are going to have to improve in various aspects of the game and we are going to have to be very hungry and driven towards that goal,” he added.
Commenting on England’s performance in the recently concluded 50-overs World Cup, held in India http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, Flower said that the side did not perform anywhere near to its potential. The Andrew Strauss-led England team had a rollercoaster World
Cup where they drew a high scoring match with India and defeated formidable Proteas but collapsed miserably against low ranked http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 on their way to the tournament quarter-final. And in the quarter-final England suffered a 10-wicket thrashing at the hands
of co-hosts Sri Lanka.
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 wicketkeeper said that though they are the Twenty20 champions but that does not guarantee them anything for the next edition of the World Twenty20 championship to be hosted by Sri Lanka in 2012.
And the fact that England would have to defend its Twenty20 champ title in the same Subcontinent conditions, makes Flower anxious and he said, “We are going to have to address that."
Flower also revealed that he had had been in discussions with the Board of control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about the possibility of becoming an India coach before renewing his contract with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
"I did have communication with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 about that job, but it was very clear in my mind where my immediate future lies," said the Zimbabwean, who led England to their back to back Ashes wins during his two-year stint with the team as head coach.
