  1. There is no State Income Tax in TX.  But that's not necessarily a good deal.

The general Sales Tax rate in most of the State is 8.25% including the "up to" 2% local option that most cities and counties DO collect.

Property taxes in TX are BREATHTAKINGLY high.  If the home I live in in MO was in Houston, my tax bill would rocket from $890 in MO to nearly $5,000 in TX.  (My combined income and property taxes in MO are less than the property taxes alone were when I owned property in TX.)  Rents are high since the landlord will pass on the cost of the property taxes to his or her tenants.

  2. I can't answer your other questions, but food refers to stuff like milk. When you have value added, like muffins, it is ordinarily taxes just like fast food.  If you buy Lender's Bagels, no tax, if you buy Einstein's bagels, tax.

The tax on my car rental in Texas was 50% of the daily rental!  If they don't have an income tax, they reap from many other places.  In our state, the republican governor calls them 'fees' so  he can pretend that he didn't raise taxes.

  3. In Neveda we don't pay state tax.We only pay fedral gov.Belive me every penny seem so much to working folks here. The best about Living here in Las Vegas,NV is the rent. The rent is cheaper than cali. Here u can get 2 bed 2 bath, with washer and dryer inside the unti for $800 or less in nice area.I don't know how people live in Cali.In cali the land lord wants $700 or more for one bed room in bad area of town on that your in come has  to be 2 or 3 time your apt.
