Manchester United winger Ashley Young insists that he won’t have a point to prove when he takes on his former employers Aston Villa at Old Trafford this Sunday.
When Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson parted with a huge amount of cash to secure Ashley Young’s services last summer, it raised a few eyebrows as it was not a signing which United urgently needed.
With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Scholes’ retirement, it was expected that the Scot might sign a midfielder to replace the 37-year-old, instead he engineered a move for Young, who had a become star on his own right at Villa Park.
However since his arrival in Manchester, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 International has more than repaid the faith that the manager has shown him and has scored some real belters this season to further enhance his reputation as one of the best attackers in the country.
Arguably his finest performance in a Red Devils’ jersey was against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, when he scored two brilliant goals to cap off a memorable outing in the historic 8-2 win.
While he has often been criticized for disappearing during the ninety minutes, he has earned a name for himself with his wand of a right foot.
Now faced with the unsavoury task of taking on his ex-club, the former Watford man insists that there won’t be any more satisfaction than usual if the team manages to come away with the three points on Sunday.
"I always look out for Villa's results. I enjoyed my four and a half years there and keep in touch with a lot of the people there. I exchanged a couple of messages with some of the lads last week - I was trying to find out their team!
"There won't be any extra edge for me because it's against my old team - I'll just be trying to put in another good performance and help us get three points."
He also reiterated that the Villans could stay in the Premier League this campaign, owing to their talented squad and winning mentality.
"We got dragged into a bit of a relegation battle when I was there last season, but we had a good team spirit and got ourselves clear of it and finished ninth in the end. I'm sure they have the squad and team spirit to survive."
Manchester United entertain Aston Villa on Sunday, while rivals Manchester City take on Norwich City.
