currently in England there is the "big 4" teams as we call them

Liverpool FC - the most successful

Manchester United - the devils that seem to be invincible

Chelsea FC - the power house buyers and the new god on the block

Arsenal - speed youth and the best looking football in the entire league

Now there is another force vying for power Manchester City

now my question is will it be called the big 5?

or will there still be a big 4?

i think that since finishing 5th means no CL then there can be realistically no big 5 so it has to be only a big 4 so who will it be?

can City really break into the top 4 or is the money and illusions just getting to everyone?

  1. everyone seems to think city buying robiniho means they think one player makes a team. NO everyone knows our defence but look at the attack. Robiniho  Jo. Elano Johnson wingers Petrov and Wright Philips, city good start under sven was down to 10 games unbeaten at home. and only one away win. we are a much more rounded team now with a manager not afraid to drop any player if they are not performing.

City will be a top four team this season. go the rihest club in the land

  2. It's hard to imagine any of the big four dropping away into mediocrity. I guess even if City managed to get a top four position they would have to do it for a few seasons in a row before anyone would start calling them part of the big four.

It's hard to know if the arabs will go mad and throw hundreds of millions into it or not, I have heard with the oil running low there they are looking to other ways to make a profit. Tourism is the obvious alternative, but I don't know whether they will try to make a football club a profitable business too, or whether it's just a new expensive toy for them.

  3. John, you still overlooked Tottenham. At the end of the season, let's make it a big 6.If you still want to call it a big 4 because of the criteria on Champions League qualifications,Man City can break into the big 4 in about 2 to 3 years' time.

  4. It will not become the big 5. The only reason it is called the big 4 is because of the Champions League places. Liverpool aren't really in the big four on merit. They are behind the other 3. They haven't won the premiership in 20 years and they regularly finish 20 points off the top of the league, aswell as missing out on the 4th place a number of times.

  5. Money is making people blind lately. I have to admit I was fooled for a day before I started thinking. Just wanted to say that yes, it can be called the top 5 if they are all very close to each other in the league because the media can call it wateva it wants to and it will catch on if said enough times. But as for breaking into the top 4, a lot of players will look at chelsea and think 'project' they will look at Liverpool and United and say 'history(past and present)' then Arsenal and say 'Beauty'. City doesn't have any place in the top 4, and they don't have the players. Players will be hard to find for them because they already have choices of teams who are actually in the champions league. And no players is going to risk a couple of years in the Uefa Cup for  a chance in the champions league if Chelsea or Liverpool want them.

  6. Well, I should imagine that in a couple of seasons' time, City may be Top 4 material but I doubt it this season, despite them having a good start. I predict maybe a 7th or 8th finish, but no higher.

  7. I cant wait for the expectations to propel the club forward as i do feel we've got a strong defence a very potent midfield and forwards that can get behind the opposition,oh almost forgot Goalkeeper very promising

    substitutes-good calibre

    SOUND FAMILIAR

  8. I don't think there can be a "big five" even if the same five teams compete for the same 5 top spots because there are only 4 spots up for grabs in the Champions League.  That is where I believe the "big 4" term comes from.

The bad news is for Tottenham, Villa and Everton as they will have to settle for 6th league position at best.

  9. Not yet...

    In two seasons maybe...

It'll be a race between 5 teams now "The Big 5"

    BUT...

By the end of each season it'll be "The Big 4 and that other team that are in The Big 5 but didnt make it into the CL"

Bit of a mouthful but thats my prediction.

  10. Emperor you're forgetting... Liverpool are not the most successful when it comes to the Premier League. They may have the most titles, but that was ages ago.

City can break into the top four, I really can't see Liverpool cutting it again. Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd are the best teams in the Premier League; all have won the league more than once and have finished in the top half consistently. If anything City and Liverpool are on the same par, but with this money and investment, I hate to say it but City will over come Liverpool in the top four.

    From a neutral.

  11. just because they bought robinho doesn't mean they are going to be one of the best teams.
