There is no solid satisfaction in any career for a woman like myself. There is no home, no true freedom, no hope, no joy, no expectation for tomorrow, no contentment. I would rather cook a meal for a man and bring him his slippers and feel myself in the protection of his arms than have all the citations and awards and honors I have received worldwide, including the Ribbon of Legion of Honor and my property and my bank accounts. They mean nothing to me. And I am only one among the millions of sad women like myself. Taylor Caldwell

When I read that quote I felt kinda sad.

Then I thought mabye most women would be happy being a mother its not like its not a rewarding thing to with your life.

Like if your kid ends up doing great things with their life so that would be a sign you did something right

  1. Being a mother can be rewarding if that's what you want to do.

But you can't draw the conclusion from one quotation that all women feel the same way. We're not that homogeneous as a group.

Read your David Hume. You obviously need to since you induced from one example how most women feel.

There's a problem with your induction.

  2. I don't know what to tell ya.. People are truly different. For each its own. Some people happy being mothers/fathers. Some can't imagine being responsible for someone else in that way. Some create, some teach, some help, some feed.... some only consume. At the end of the day everyone is happy and unhappy with something of their own.

  3. From the sound of it the human species is going to die off, because women don't want to procreate anymore...and are disgusted by those who do.

  4. With milk at $4 a gallon and gas at about the same, I don't see that happening. Some of us need the job to make a better world for their kids. You know, so they can eat, wear new clothes and get things they need for school and other activities - like pee wee football.

Being a mother is rewarding for me. But I do the best I can, and I won't be a slave to the man when I am working just as hard as he is. We both do our best to be with our kids when we can, and show our appreciation for each other by having a night out every once in a while.

  5. I wouldn't be happy being a mother.  I'm going to be a veterinarian, not a mother.

  6. I think she needs to speak only for herself. I'm sorry she never found any satisfaction in being a "career woman," and that she wasted so many years of her life doing something she did not enjoy, but I do find satisfaction in being a career woman. It's incredibly annoying when people project their own values and opinions on others like Caldwell has. It's as if she is implying that all of us "career women" are hiding something, or lying when we say we enjoy what we do, just because she didn't.

  7. For herself - well, maybe that is true. Not all women (and not all men) find satisfaction in a career. So why the h**l doesn't she do something about it? That's what I did when I found I wasn't happy with my life - I went back to university to retrain. Bingo! Now I'm happier. If she just sits around and complains about it, does she think things will magically get better?

  8. Sucess means different things to different people. I personally don't want a 'career', and I think people are swayed into wanting one because we are in a money and social status driven world.

Success is whatever you want, it could be a career, a loving family and home, working for a charity or doing good work, spiritual growth. Anthing.

  9. I can't believe she thinks all women think like her. My mom really enjoys her job. (I have no frickin' idea WHY, it's an extremely mentally tasking and tedious job, but apparently she likes it.)

  10. The sad thing is that most women cannot afford to be sahms any more.

  11. That's a woman LIKE HER, and I'm the kind of woman who can never find true satisfaction without a career or with a family.
