There is nothing wrong with Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s technique, believes Michael Atherton – Cricket News Update
Michael Atherton, the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390, and feels that the left-hander is the most important player for the Caribbean team in the longer
version of the sport.
Since Brian Lara’s retirement from Test cricket in 2006, Chanderpaul has been the mainstay of the West Indian batting line-up and has been performing out of his skin. The cricketer from Guyana is the currently number one on the International Cricket
Council’s Test Batsmen Rankings.
The 37-year-old batsman has a unique style of batting, which is quite strange for the people, who believe in orthodox cricket. Chanderpaul stands upright towards the bowler in his stance and shuffles a lot before the ball is pitched.
Atherton, who himself was an opening batsman in his playing days, believes that the middle-order batsman has a different outlook but there is nothing wrong with his technique. The former England captain is of the opinion that Chanderpaul would not
have been the best Test batsman of the world, if his basics were not correct.
He expressed, "You often find a tailing off with batsmen that are very aggressive or completely unorthodox. Shiv is unorthodox in a fashion but if you look at the basics of when the bowler is about to release the ball he is in a better position.”
Chanderpaul is one of the very few batsmen in the history of the game, who have scored more than 10 thousand runs in Test cricket. On top of that, the great batsman has almost nine thousand runs in limited-over sport as well.
Taking into account the performance of the young Caribbean batsmen recently, Atherton feels that it is imperative for the West Indian cricket that their most senior cricketer carries on for some more years.
"The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 need someone like him in their middle order, with a lot of young players around. They need his runs because a lot of the others are not getting a large volume, but they also need somebody to show the way," the former England
skipper added.
