While talking to journalists, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 president, Vincent Labrune said that there is just one big club in the French Ligue 1 and that is his club thus taking the rivalry with PSG to a new level
Even with less money, president of Olympique de Marseille wants his club to continue competing with bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
Currently chasing the Ile giants by 13 points, Marseille might not even feature in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Things have changed drastically for both Marseille and PSG in the last few months.
Thanks to the Qatari takeover, Paris Saint-Germain have become a major force in the European market and can buy any player they want given the vast resources at their disposal. In the January transfer window, Marseille tried in vain to bring in a new player
while PSG bought the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Motta-c34897.
Currently fighting for their first Championnat since 1994, PSG need not worry about Marseille chasing them as there is a big gap opening up between the two sides.
However, despite all this, Labrune remains convinced that Marseille have nothing to envy about PSG who have acquired so much money from the Qataris.
“PSG has put 100 million Euros in transfers this year, that is to say ten times more than us. Yet, when I look at my team and I look at them, I say that if we had not missed our early season, we would match PSG.”
If he sees PSG becoming the Real Madrid of the Championnat, Labrune recalls that the club with the most trophies and the best fans belongs to him.
“We will not tell stories: In http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899, there is a big club, not two, and it is Olympique de Marseille,” says Labrune.
Cocky maybe, but Labrune has pointed out a fact. However, with the way things are happening at Ile, it seems that Marseille could be displaced as the most successful club in Ligue 1. Though this will take time, it may just happen anyway especially if the
cash-rich owners choose to stay with PSG for a long time which might be likely.
