  1. it did in the 70's because cars had carburators, now cars have fuel injection which means there is only 1 mile to the gallon differance. so use the air.

  2. Running your A/C will make your car work more cause the A/C belts have to spin.  I would use the A/C just once in awhile as I drive.

There is an article that will give plenty of tips on how to save gas.  Read it from the link below.

  3. You ARE right. It IS c**p, meant to divert your attention away from the fact that you probably ought to be driving an electric car, and not a gas one to begin with... 1970 was 38 years ago,  but the engineers still haven't come up with a better more efficient car? They are passing the blame onto you, and getting away with it

  4. The fact is that using A/C will add about 10% to your fuel costs. There is plenty of nonsense talked about this too but to save gas, the bottom line is, switch off the A/C.

There is a myth that opening windows costs more than using the A/C.

I can't remember where the link was but the scientific study I found showed that opening the window did add drag but used a fraction of the energy that A/C does.

Myth Busters found that the break even point where aircon would be more efficient than open windows is over 55mph.

BUT it ignores the fact that at 55mph you wouldn't drive with all the windows down, would you!

  5. The easiest way to save gas is with water to learn more about it visit this pages it has enough detail of water fueling your car and saving gas money

  6. Don't get bogged down on whether to turn off the A/C and roll down the windows or not. With the newer cars, the savings is not that much.

Focus more on some of the hypermiling methods such as get rid of excess weight, take out the gold clubs dude, and driving less than 70 MPH, make sure your tires are inflated to manufacture specs.

These things will save you more gas than the A/C issue plus you will still be driving comfortably and not sweating like a fat pig.

Also with the new technology that has been surfacing lately dealing with converting your car to run on water. Relying solely on oil and gas may soon be a thing of the past.

  7. There certainly are ways to greatly increase the effeciency of your internal combustion engine. Such as cooling the engine by water vapor injection, enhancing the fuel burn by addition of oxidizing and reducing agents such as oxygen and hydrogen and utilizing better fuel ratio control.

A good source of information about these concepts can be found here... http://www.gassippinwaterburner.com

You might want to check it out and possibly save a bunch of tears at the gas pump.

  8. Cooling power in terms of BTU will determine how much more gas you will be using with the AC on (plus the frictional forces). Nothing works without energy and the only energy source you have in you car is gas.
