Question:

There is something like a string with a small dot that i see with my left eye time to time?

its like a shadow or something that comes and goes. its not permanent. not sure what it could be. sometimes i can see that even with my eyes closed

  1. sounds like you have some lint hanging off of your eyelash and the dot could be mascara.  shrug.  I would check under the lid at the lash line to see if there is another foreign substance such as string or something from your work area that could have floated from the AC unit at home/office.


  2. Yes, it is to do with the vitreous fluid in your eye. These can be irritating but rarely problematic. Basically your eye is full of vitreous fluid which contains strands. As you get older the consistancy of this fluid changes and the strands can become debris which you are now able to see.

    Depending on different factors you may be having a vitreous separation or detachment ( do not confuse with retinal detachment). Very common with people over 60 but can happen anytime. Again normally not a problem.

    If worried go to an eye hospital, especially if you get a lot more floaters or a curtain come across your eye. Very doubtful but then it is an emergency.
