there is a new girl at school. I was nice to her on the first day we are kinda of friends like we say hey in the hall, but I wanted to be her first new best friend but there is this girl that beat me to it. What do I do. I still want to be her friend

I think its great that your trying to be friends with her, being the new kid is VERY hard to do. However, don't look at her as "new bait" or something cuz that's what you made it seem like. Do you have only one friend? She doesn't need to either, you can be good friends with her, at least until she finds friends that she fits in with because you two might just not be "best friend material" for each other. Be friends with her anyway, it proves you were trying to be a real friend.

Just try and be yourself and try to hang out with her more like instead of just saying hi the halls when ever you past each other try and talk to her more and try to start some conversations about something you know she might be interested in and sure enough she will become your friend and probable a better friend then the other girl is. dont act so desperate!!  start looking around at other ppl asap and forget about obsessing over who wins this girls affection. when you come on that stong it gives people the impression you are lonely. give it a few days. then talk to her in the lunchroom or something

Just because another girl is best friends with her doesn't mean you can't be also...girls have a ton of best friends (it's like a relative term). You already have a good start with her it sounds like so just keep talking with her, see if she wants to hang out some time. Making new friends should be fun...it shouldn't cause worry and stress and it definitely shouldn't be a competition.

Show her that you are as good as anyone else. Spend time with her and be her friend because you really want to be, not because you want to beat another girl to her. This New girl will most probably understand if you really want to be her friend or if its a competition. Spend time with her, talk to her, share secrets, TRUST her, and then she will trust you. Don't let that stop you! Keep pursuing a friendship with her. More than likely she will remember how nice you were to her. New girls automatically become close with whoever is nice to then. Maybe all three of you could be close.
