There is too much international cricket at the moment, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KD-Mills-c1781 – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) will have to take a tough decision sooner rather than later in order to preserve the top players.
There are a number of international cricketers at the moment who have complained about too much work load. There are three forms of international cricket being played at the moment in the shape of Tests, the 50-over format and the T20 version of the sport,
which is rapidly becoming the most popular format amongst the spectators.
Before 2000s, a top-class international cricketer used to have a career of about 15 to 20 years. However, such a long career span does not look like a possibility in the modern day cricket as most of the international cricketers play for their country for
about 8 to 10 years.
For his interview to Pakpassion, the Kiwi fast bowler, who is rated among the top bowlers in limited overs cricket, expressed that it is very hard for a fast bowler to bear such burden and it is because of too much cricket that most of the fast bowlers face
injuries, which also hamper their performance at the highest stage of the game.
Mills said, “Look, I think in my mind the amount of Cricket being played these days is just so much that there is not any respite for fast bowlers. When you are at the international level where it is so competitive and excruciating it definitely takes its
toll on the body.”
Some of the top players of world cricket have started to focus on either limited overs format of the game or the longer version of the sport. Kyles feels that ICC must look into this matter more seriously because quantity can surely damage the quality in
international cricket.
“I think a balance will have to be struck somewhere. You already see players leaving the longer formats to just play One Day and T20, or doing the reverse in the form of players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 and Johnson who want to concentrate on just Tests”, he added.
