There is too much to lose if the NBA season gets cancelled – NBA Lockout Special (Part -2)
However, Kobe Bryant will soon be 34 and that is not going to help him or the Los Angeles Lakers. He has already lost a step and the next season somehow appears to be more crucial than any other Kobe has played in so far. The power
centre of the league has already shifted to the Eastern Conference, with players like Derrick Rose and LeBron James creating shockwaves. Even in West, Oklahoma City Thunder, led by Kevin Durant, are ready to take control.
If Kobe fails to get a sixth ring on his hand next season, unless a miracle happens, he and the Lakers are not going to win the championship. His future however lies in the hands of Billy Hunter and David Stern.
Next in line is Dirk Nowitzki and his Dallas Mavericks, the reigning NBA Champions. What Dallas achieved this year, with a team full of old aged men, was truly remarkable. However, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the
2012-2013 season is realistically the last chance for players like Nowitzki and Kidd to once again compete for the ultimate prize.
Many analysts might even disagree with that assertion though.
The Mavs winning a championship this season was nothing short of a miracle and to repeat the feat, the old war horses of Dallas need the season to start on time.
How can anyone forget the Phoenix Suns point guard, Steve Nash?
The two times ‘Most Valuable Player' has been a true asset to the game. In fact, he is arguably the best point guard, the league has seen in the last two decades. However, he will soon be turning 39 and if the lockout does not
end soon, then you can very well say goodbye to a true legend, albeit in the most shameful manner possible.
The Canadian sniper has only one thing left on his illustrious resume – the Championship Ring – and the rumours of him moving to a championship contender side next season will have no significance if there is no season.
In short, some of the biggest stars in NBA are on their last legs and nothing could be sadder than to see such great names go out with a whimper. Everyone, irrespective of which team they support, wants to see these names continue
for as long as possible and a lost season is certainly not going to help the cause.
