There is too much to lose if the NBA season gets cancelled – NBA Lockout Special (Part -3)
There is also the case of the rookies, the young guns, who entered the draft this year, rearing to make it big in their first year. However, with the NBA season in doldrums, all they can do is to just sit back and wait for their
ordeal to end. Considering the fact that they are neither the part of the National Basketball Players Union or NBPA nor have they received any financial perks so far by the NBA franchise, one can help but feel for those guys.
Not only will it be a painful wait out for the excited rookies, the Cleveland Cavaliers (with the number one pick, Kyrie Irving) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (with the number two pick, Derrick Williams) will have to continue
living in the miserable state in which they ended last season. Both are desperate to see the sun shine over them, but the NBA lockout is delaying that.
There is more. All NBA fans are eager to watch Jimmer Fredette of the Sacramento Kings and Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Bobcats in action as soon as possible. Walker has been lighting up the summer leagues, however, a reflection
of the frustration which the rookies are facing at the moment was showcased by him weeks ago, when he lost his cool after the Jimmer Fredette rookie exhibition game. What he said completely summed up the situation that the new draftee’s are facing
“I’m angry because I can’t do anything. I can’t talk to my team, I can’t talk to my coaching staff and start learning things from them, I can’t get involved with the team at all. It pretty much [stinks]. ‘I would like to get acclimated
to the NBA game. I know there’s a big difference from college to the NBA, so not getting a chance to learn, it’s pretty hard.’ … ‘I’ve been thinking about it [playing overseas] lately. I don’t really want to because I don’t know if I want to go so far away,’
Walker said. ‘But if it’s something that has to be done, it could be possible, depending how long we go into this lockout. I just want to play basketball.”
Let us now shift our focus to the other end of the spectrum - the players who are on the verge of breaking out in the league – people like  Blake Griffin and Kevin Love, two of the most dominant forces at the power forward position
last year. The two bigs are billed to be the next big things in the league.
However, with the talks on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement headed nowhere, there is a grave danger that they might lose their exceptional run of form, if they have to wait out the next year.
