There must be better inventions before and after sliced bread that we can refer to..?

For example, "That's the best invention since knives." How would you cut the bread it you didn't have a knife, surely that was a better invention. You can even use it to butter your bread. What other inventions were better?

While many people seem to think it means "since the dawn of history", "sliced bread" was first introduced in 1928.

The phrase is likely a result of Wonder Bread commercials in the 1930's.

Better inventions since 1928?  The transistor would certainly rate high.
