There should be a Frenchman on the Formula 1 grid – Renault; Romain Grosjean the team’s target
Renault recently signed with Group Lotus for the 2011 Formula 1 season and as a result, RenaultF1 changed its name to Lotus Renault GP officially. The team has been working very hard to ensure that they have a good car for 2011.
Renault’s team principal Eric Boullier recently admitted that he has been trying his best to bring back their former driver Romain Grosjean back to the sport somehow as he believes that there should at least be one Frenchman on
the Formula 1 grid for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“We are working very hard to get Romain Grosjean a seat and also to bring along other young people. France needs to have a good driver in F1,” said Eric.
The team recently announced that they have signed a deal with Vitaly Petrov that ensures the young Russian driver drives until the end of 2012. Other than that, Robert Kubica will drive for the team for another year and it would
be interesting to see how both of them drive alongside each other for another year.
Robert Kubica was one of the best drivers of the 2011 Formula 1 season and the team is expecting a lot from him. Since the team is going to have Group Lotus by its side as well, it is expected that Renault will perform much better
than they did in 2010 and if Robert is provided with a good car, he would definitely be a huge threat to the top running drivers in the sport.
Nevertheless, the team hopes to bring back a French driver to the Formula 1 grid and a French commentator Christophe Malbranque stated that Romain Grosjean is expected to be Renault’s third driver for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Eric Boullier is still heading Gravity Sports alongside Renault along with Genii Capital as well, that is the driver management arm of Renault.
“I would like to see a Frenchman on the podium, or at least with a good team. We talk about it at Enstone or Genii Capital very often and we are trying everything to reach a solution quickly, but nothing is simple. We need a No.1
at a very high level and we need Petrov and what he brings,” Boullier added.
