  1. Most restaurants don't post a sign. I would say if you are dining in a large group you should expect to pay an automatic tip. If you do not feel your server deserved the tip talk to the manager about what was wrong with your service. Often times things that you think may have been the servers fault were not such as the grill taking too long. Also, it is much harder to wait on a larger group at once.

  2. I'd speak to the manager, and discuss this with him. It's not like the waiter was waiting on your baby.

  3. If they did that to me I would talk to the manager. That is ridiculous.

  4. people are peope no matter how old. Even though your baby was only 1 mo. old, i would bet money that the server and the restaurant still had to make accomodations and extra efforts to take care of the kid as well as the adult guests. If you don't like the policy don't eat there. The restaurant has every right to auto grat if they want to. Most large parties don't tip servers the appropriate amount for the work they have done anyway, so this is insurance that the server does not get screwed. In most states servers work ONLY off of tips (CA is an exception). Also believe it or not, most parents let young kids throw food around, or leave the baby food jars and mess on the table for the server to clean later, ask for milk to be heated, etc. That is all extra work a server has to do to take care of the kid as well as the adults, but almost every time is not tipped for the extra effort. No that effort is not routine, servers are not babysitters or maids. The $2.13 they get an hour they never see. I would say you have never worked in a food service industry before or you would not be posting this question. If you can't afford to tip appropriately.... DON'T EAT OUT!!!

  5. I would complain to the manager and cross that place off my list.

  6. each state is different but i believe in the restaurant world there is a rule of the number of people you need in your party to add gradtuity...and the age is normally KIDS and higher a kid being a kid not an infant....i'd talk to the store manager asap!

  7. I work in a restaurant and our company policy is if there are 8 breathing bodies at the table: 2 servers have to share it and we do add grat. Gratuity is based on how much food you ordered. If your baby didn't order anything what's the big deal? Plus grat. is only 15% which is the very least you should tip in my opinion, so if you are complaining about tipping what you were supposed to tip in the first place, I just don't know what to say.
