There were army base(s)* on Salisbury plain in the 60's (they may still be there) ...?

that were used for tank training. Does anyone know the names, & location's of these bases, or what villages they were near.

*it may have only been one base

  1. there are army camps still around salisbury plain which are very much in use today esp for training . i dont know how many but i know of bulford camp, bovington and larkhill i think the other was, and warminster a few miles away


  2. The actual bases where people lived were not on Salisbury Plain, but in surrounding camps, like the Royal School of Artillery at Larkhill, Boscombe Down airfield and Middle Wallop Army Air Corps Base.

    About half the area of Salisbury Plain is part of the Army Training Estate Salisbury Plain. The MoD now own 150 square miles (390 km²) of land, making it the largest military training area in the UK. Live firing on the Plain takes place around 340 days a year.
