  1. Sure.  The lemon tree would not put the chemicals fromthe roots into its fruit - at least not that I have ever heard of.  I think if that were possible, then people would be warning folks not to let certain plants grow near or on fruit trees and I have never heard such a comment.  I think you are fine eating that fruit - if it makes you nervous, prune those roots back so it does not become more attached.
