  1. A bolt of lightning may strike the power lines near your house causing a surge that can damage unprotected electronics.  Also, it the bolt of lightning merely passes a power line it may induce a surge without hitting the actual line.  It is possible to obtain surge protectors for both the power and signal lines to a computer (and hope that the surge isn't too powerful).  Best also to stay off of a land line phone (unless you and your nearby caller have portable phones?).  Lightning can strike with the major storm 15 miles away and your first sign that it is close may be a bolt striking the power lines to your house.  Turning off the computer (during the usually short time the storm front passes overhead) is being safe rather than sorry.

  2. Yeah I would.

  3. Yh

  4. It depends, if you see a lot of lightning outside right now than yea i think you should get off and shut it down if you dont want that to happen again, if its just rain and little thunder than you should be fine

  5. You should have lightning-safe protection on your plugs, so this won't be a problem. I've had lightning strike and burn out my network card already...
