  1. If you have a sportsbike, get the highest octane rating you can get a hold of DO NOT PUT CRAPPY FUEL, IT WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE SUCK, yeah is cheaper, but bike parts are not cheap either and you have to pay for labor too. Another option you have is, from time to time if the highest octane you can get is 91, get some octane booster of a good brand, like Lucas, Valvoline or something of that nature and add it to the fuel.

Bad mileage on a bike, most likely is a mechanical problem, and the need of a tune up. I have a TLR and dont matter what i do to it, the bike is a gas guzzler, but i love it; so if you have a big motorcycle, dont expect having gas for a week if you ride it hard. So think about a tune up and see what happens.

  2. Thank you headless horseman! Using premium does not reduce mileage in any way at all. If anything it will increase MPG. Yes high octane is used for high compression engines (like the ones in sportbikes) but using has other benefits.

cleaner burn = less gunk in fuel system. Less gunk = better MPG. Low gunk + high MPG = money saved!

Some gas stations have 100 unleaded.

  3. First off, there is no such thing as a "bad batch" of gas. Government regulators routinely report that up to 50% of gas pumps are incorrect. So uncharacteristically bad mileage may have been the result of a bad pump. Big chain stores have more to lose from having crooked pumps.

Ethanol is the same as gasoline except that it is partially oxidized (burned) already (C2H6O). This means it has a lower energy content per gallon, only around 66% of gasoline. Since the compression of your bike is constant, you will get poorer mileage depending on the concentration of the mix. Also, the oxygen atom makes the molecule much more hydrophilic, i.e., it can hold water in the fuel, which is bad. Gas stations in my experience post on the pump if there is ethanol in it.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED TO RUN HIGHER OCTANE THAN YOUR MANUAL RECOMMENDS. (see sources). You will not get more power, mileage, anything. It does not burn cleaner or hotter. IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!

  4. no gas is the same, every company has their own unique mixture... atleast in one aspect or another... chevron for example adds extra stuff to their fuel to clean your engine (whether it works or not i don't know)

btw, when i ran super in my bike, it ran alot hotter, and thus burned gas quicker (at some rate or another) i actually notied the diffrence between super and regular.... when i went to refill the second time on regular, my tank was still 1/4 full....

  5. Wrong just ask the attendents if the gas is 100% gas or ethanol mix... most people with 100% ADVERTISE  this fact with a banner around here also the state laws usually require it to be posted at the pump if the gas has additives ethanol will varnish much more quickly as in 2 weeks to 4 weeks but your mileage may very well be affected as well by gumming up
