Therese Alshammar and Anton Lagerqvist impress in Halmstad: Swedish Long Course Nationals
Day three of the 2011 Swedish Long Course Nationals got-off to a flying start with the impressive performances of Therese Alshammar and Anton Lagerqvist at Halmstad, Sweden, on Friday, July 1.
The event conducted meets of the Women’s 50m freestyle, Men’s 200m breast-stroke and Men’s 100m butterfly categories.
Alshammar won the Women’s 50m freestyle event with a winning time of 24.59 seconds, while Sarah Sjostrom wound up second in 25.05 seconds. Michelle Coleman earned third place honours with a time of 25.73 seconds. Claire Vilshed wound up fourth in 25.95 seconds,
whereas, Emma Smith earned the fifth position in 26.03 seconds.
The Swedish swimmer won two silver titles in the Women’s 50m and 100m freestyle events, along with one bronze in the 4x100m freestyle meet at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
Therese was happy with her performance in the respective meet and looked very determined to grab more gold titles at the FINA 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July. The Swedish swimmer is also eying to win her first ever Olympic gold medal at the
2012 Olympic Games in London.
In the second race, Anton Lagerqvist snagged the Men’s 200m breast-stroke meet with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 16.77 seconds, while Erik Persson rounded out the top two in 2 minutes and 18.44 seconds. The third place went to Johan Johansson after he
touched the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 18.70 seconds.
In another event, former Olympic champion, Lars Frolander, nabbed the Men’s 100m butterfly race with a time of 53.85 seconds, whereas, Simon Sjodin captured second spot with a time of 54.34 seconds. David Larsson rounded out the top three position holders
on the podium in 54.91 seconds.
Sarah Thyden took home the Women's 200m Individual Medley crown with a victorious time of 2 minutes and 15.01 seconds. Ida Marko-Varga finished his race second in 2 minutes and 15.21 seconds. Stina Gardell touched the finishing wall to earn third place honours
in a time of 2 minutes and 15.29 seconds.
