Therese Alshammar and Erica Morningstar impress in Moscow: 2011 FINA World Cup
Sweden’s veteran and Olympic medallist, Therese Alshammar and Canada’s Erica Morningstar gave their stimulating performances in the third round of the seven stop 2011 FINA World Cup series in Russia, on Tuesday, October 18. The session of the meet conducted
the Women’s 50m freestyle and 200m Individual Medley finals.
Swedish athlete, Alshammar got-off to a strong start and thrashed out her rivals by powering the finishing wall in a time of 24.27 seconds to claim 50m freestyle title. Meanwhile, Allison Schmitt of United States picked silver medal by hitting the finishing
wall in a time of 24.74 seconds and Daniela Schreiber of Germany earned bronze medal with a mark of 24.89 seconds.
Darya Stepanyuk of Ukraine finished fourth in the respective meet with a mark of 25.02 seconds, while China’s Yifei Zheng settled for fifth place in a time of 25.14 seconds. In addition, Lia Neal of United States picked sixth position with a blot of 25.15
seconds and Miroslava Najdanovski of Serbia earned seventh place honours by thrashing the finishing wall in a time of 25.21 seconds. Finally, Natalia Lovtsova of Russia settled for eighth position in a time of 25.27 seconds.
Additionally, the Women’s 200m Individual Medley crown was clinched by Erica Morningstar of Canada with a sterling mark of 2 minutes and 08.46 seconds. Izumi Kato of Japan earned silver medal in a time of 2 minutes and 08.62 seconds, while Ra Choi Hye of
Korea settled for bronze title in a time of 2 minutes and 08.81 seconds. Meanwhile, Ekaterina Andreeva of Russia earned fourth spot with a time of 2 minutes and 11.66 seconds and Yeong Kim Seo of Korea finished fifth in a time of 2 minutes and 11.71 seconds.
Furthermore, Daria Belyakina of Russia got sixth position in a time of 2 minutes and 13.15 seconds and Victoria Andreeva of Russia settled for seventh place in a time of 2 minutes and 13.38 seconds. Last, but not the least, Andrea Kropp of United States
finished eighth in a time of 2 minutes and 16.39 seconds.
