Therese Alshammar and Gerhard Zandberg impress spectators at the 2011 Mare Nostrum, Canet
Olympic medallist, Therese Alshammar of Sweden took home the golden crown in the Women’s 50m butterfly final at the 2011 Mare Nostrum in Canet, France, on June 9, 2011.
Alshammar beat Sarah Sjostrom in the respective race with a winning time of 25.69 seconds. Sjostrom claimed silver in the 50m butterfly event with a time of 26.08 seconds for her 3rd place in the world rankings. Meanwhile, Melanie Henique grabbed
the bronze title in the following meet with a matchless time of 26.41 seconds for her 8th place in the international rankings.
Previously in the same event, Alshammar beat Veronika Popova in the Women’s 50m freestyle final with a winning time of 24.47 seconds. Popova claimed silver in the corresponding event with a time of 25.10 seconds, whereas, Marieke Guehrer snared bronze title
with a time of 25.32 seconds.
She nabbed the golden crown in the Women’s 100m butterfly event against Martina Granstrom and Jessicah Schipper with a victorious time of 58.48 seconds. Granstrom grabbed silver with a time of 59.05 seconds and Schipper clinched bronze title in a time of
59.18 seconds. Swedish swimmer, Alshammar has now grabbed three gold medals at the 2011 Mare Nostrum, Canet, including 50m free-style, 50m and 100m butter-fly events.
On the other hand, Gerhard Zandberg of South Africa took home the Men’s 50m back-stroke title with a winning time of 24.96 seconds, while Ben Treffers of Australia claimed silver medal with a time of 25.02 seconds. Finally, Junya Koga snared bronze medal
in the respective meet after touching the finishing wall with a time of 25.29 seconds.
In another swimming event, Michelle Weber clinched gold medal in the Women’s 800m freestyle final with a sterling time of 8 minutes and 49.68 seconds. Grangeon snared silver title with a winning time of 8 minutes and 55.45 seconds and also moved into the
top spot in the world rankings.
Last, but not the least, Mie Ostergaard Nielsen captured the bronze medal in the Women’s 800m freestyle final with a time of 8 minutes and 56.86 seconds.
