Therese Alshammar claims Women’s 50m butterfly title in Beijing: 2011 FINA World Cup
Olympic medallist, Therese Alshammar of Sweden and Pan American Games medallist, Omar Pinzon of Colombia continued to mesmerise the arena on the second evening of the seven-stop FINA World Cup series in Beijing, China, on Wednesday, November 9. Alshammar
went on to clinch the Women’s 50m butterfly title, while Pinzon claimed Men’s 200m back-stroke crown.
Swedish veteran, Alshammar was battling against two young guns of China including Ying Lu and Liuyang Jiao in a vital match, where Alshammar began the race in strong fashion and left her rivals behind by clicking the finishing blockade in a fastest time
of 25.40 seconds. Lu went on to pocket silver medal in the respective race by touching the finishing fence in a blot of 25.52 seconds, while Jiao was settled for bronze medal in a mark of 25.78 seconds.
Emma McKeon of Australia gave a good try in the pool and was placed fourth in a time of 26.54 seconds, whereas, Jessicah Schipper of Australia picked fifth position by claiming the finishing wall in a spot of 26.80 seconds. In addition, Olivia Halicek of
Australia performed well in the respective race and settled at sixth place in a time of 26.81 seconds. Xinyi Zou of China earned seventh position in a mark of 27.08 seconds, while Wenrui Zhu of China pocketed eighth spot in a time of 27.23 seconds.
In the meantime, the Men’s 200m back-stroke title was claimed by Omar Pinzon of Colombia in a scintillating mark of 1 minute and 50.46 seconds. Kazuki Watanabe of Japan splashed hard in the respective swim and pocketed silver medal by touching the finishing
cordon in a time of 1 minute and 52.20 seconds. Meanwhile, the bronze title went to Xiaolei Sun of China in a mark of 1 minute and 52.36 seconds.
Jigong Diao of China gave his best attempt and picked fourth spot in a mark of 1 minute and 53.54 seconds, while Markus Rogan of Austria settled at fifth place in a spot of 1 minute and 54.31 seconds. Yongqing Lin of China impressed the arena by finishing
sixth in the race in a time of 1 minute and 54.49 seconds.
JanPhilip Glania of Germany settled at seventh place in a mark of 1 minute and 56.17 seconds. Finally, Kosuke Hagino of Japan picked eighth position by clicking the finishing fence in a time of 1 minute and 56.78 seconds.
