Therese Alshammar clinches Women’s 50m freestyle gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Therese Alshammar of Sweden clinched gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Saturday, October 6.
Alshammar, who dominated the same event at the first stop of series in Dubai, continued her alarming pace in the second stop and defender her title with great audacity.
She faced tough competition from Britta Steffen of Germany throughout the race but with her impeccable efforts, Alshammar earned her way to the top of victory stand for gold medal.
Alshammar’s alluring struggle remained just an inch ahead of her strongest contender as she paved her way to the finishing wall for gold medal by producing a time of 24.44 seconds.
The champion was followed by Steffen, who remained just 0.02 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade for silver medal by touching the wall with a timing of 24.46 seconds.
Steffen was traced by Inge Dekker of Netherlands, who remained 0.32 seconds slower from upsetting the second position holder and surfaced on the wall as third fastest swimmer by submitting a time of 24.78 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Michelle Coleman of Sweden, who stayed half body length behind and emerged on the finishing end as fourth best finisher by clocking a time of 25.22 seconds.
Subsequently, Coleman enjoyed a benefit of 0.07 seconds over Hang Yu Sze of Hong Kong, who concluded her race in fifth best place by touching the wall with an effort of 25.29 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the race was followed by Lynette Ng of Singapore, who stayed 0.80 seconds and emerged on the finishing end by touching the wall with an effort of 26.09 seconds.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Rachel Tseng of Singapore, who was 1.19 seconds apart and clocked a time of 27.28 seconds.
Last spot of the race was followed by Nada Arakji of Qatar, who stayed 3.01 seconds behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 30.29 seconds.
Furthermore, Alshammar was overjoyed with her gold finish and raked medal after the event.
