Thermostat changed in the right direction or not. ?

1991 toyota pick up truck 2wd, 4cyl.

i recently changed thermostat in my truck. i changed it with the lever going up the 12:00 rule. should it have been going down, cause its still oveheating. nothing has changed.

I'd check the fans next.  If the fans aren't the problem then it could be the waterpump or the radiator itself.

the spring goes in the motor.

The coil spring inside the thermostat must point down toward the intake manifold. Check your electric fans. Are they running when the motor gets hot?
