Thesan Capital ready to sell the HRT Formula 1 team – Formula 1 news
The Thesan Capital has decided to sell the HRT Formula 1 team after it purchased the team from the Carabante family in July last year.
The news was confirmed by the team as it gave the following statement over their official website.
“The current owners of HRT Formula 1 Team, TC II S.a.rl., would like to confirm that they are currently in talks with a number of groups interested in buying the team,” the statement read. “HRT Formula 1 Team's current management hopes to conclude the sale
in the upcoming weeks and, with it, enable the team to continue progressing and become a reference in modern-day Formula 1 after the important achievements already accomplished in this 2012 season.”
The team management also added that they believed it is the right time to put the team into the hands of new investors. They are really happy with the performance of the whole team and the improvement achieved by it but it is necessary that the team is supported
by new financial backing. The new investors will be bringing a boost to the potential of the team.
HRT is the only Spanish team to compete in F1 after a former effort to launch another Spanish team ‘Bravo F1’ failed to make its way into the F1 community. The team was started by a former driver Adrian Campos and was originally known as Campos Meta 1 and
Hispania Racing. The team made its debut in F1 racing in 2010 by which time it was taken over by Jose Ramon Carabante and the team principal was Colin Kolles.
Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan joined the team in the 2011 F1 season. In the current season, the team failed to qualify in the first race but then gradually improved with Pedro de la Rosa partnering Karthikeyan. The new team principal is Luis Perez-Sala
and the team has moved its base to Madrid. The team is currently at the last place out of a total of twelve F1 teams on the constructors’ grid.
A report had claimed that the team will be dissolved if it fails to find a buyer by December but HRT has denied it and is hoping to announce a new owner in the coming weeks.
