We have to go for a tasting but are only allowed to try one each.

Entree -

Goats cheese, semi dried tomato and caramelized onion tart with pear, parmesan and herb salad

Salad of duck confit with roast beetroot, thyme and watercress salad

Mains -

Roasted lamb rack with parmesan polenta, ratatouille and salad verde

Roasted baby chicken, herb risotto cake, roasted leek and butter sauce

Desserts -

Seasonal fruits and berries in a spiced syrup with rasberry sorbet and shortbread

Roast peach and vanilla bean panacotta with pistachio biscotti

What do you think of these selections? Any tips, suggestions are welcome!

  1. A tad too classy. If there are kids coming that will not work out.

  2. I would love to be offered these choices at wedding. But at as you have already seen there are people out there who have more conservative tastes for whom this would be  too exotic. As someone who has worked  in the catering industry  for a couple of years I was  taught that you have to find out who the fussiest eater in the  group  and appeal to their tastes first then  build  the menu from there.  Stay true to your tastes but  keep in mind the people your  guests, as any gracious hostess would do :). Maybe you are lucky enough to have a group of family and friends who are foodies who would love this menu  but I'm guessing that "meat and potatoes" Grandpa and Aunty Shirley would go home hungry.

  3. We had a similar menu, although 20% of our wedding Guests including me are vegetarians, so we had a veggie choice. Yours looks absolutely gorgeous and I think you will be hard pressed to choose between them.

  4. Do the goat cheese thing for appetizer if that's what you mean -- the pre-meal.

I would taste the roast chicken, because chicken can either be very good or very bad cooked en masse. Unless you've never tasted ratatouille in which case try the lamb.

I think the desserts sound very tasty and refreshing, and yes, if your cake is chocolate there's no need for anything rich for dessert.

    It sounds so elegant!

  5. dang this sounds really good. It sounds like you are foodie, but I would suggest you think about what your friends and family wont pick over. I know if served duck to my family they would curse my name til the end of time. But if you're seeking an opinion here you go:

    goat cheese salad

    roasted lamb

seasonal fruits... think this will be a nice contrast to the wedding cake.

Panacotta, duck and even lamb can be scary to people who are picky eaters. Definitely see if an vegetarian meal can be served as well. At the end of the day, its your day so get what YOU want and congrats!!!

  6. you may want to consider having a vegetarian dish.  for example, one of the salads includes duck.  so if you can only pick one, then the herb salad would be my pick.

  7. Maybe one more simple choice for the picky eaters, otherwise it sounds amazing

  8. That's fancy food!!

For my son's wedding (10 yrs ago) the groomsmen roasted a hog.

The sides were sweet potatoes, black bean and corn salsa, dinner rolls, tossed salad, a pasta salad, a fruit platter, and a veggie tray.

We also had a few kegs of beer and bottles of wine as well.

It was really nice and laid back, we actually had the reception in a  very classy place!!

  9. I'd make sure if kids are coming you have an option for them too.  I, personally, would not eat any of this.  too fancy for my tastes plus I won't eat lamb or ANY baby animal who hasn't had a chance to live. (and no the full grown animals I eat don't have crappy lives because I only eat organic food, meaning the animals have GOOD lives) anyways that is besides the point.

I'd give a children's option if they are coming. and dear lord does that desert sound delicious!!!!

  10. Yeah, if there's kids, they're not gonna eat anything....all way to fancy....I think I would only enjoy the desserts.

  11. I think that your menu sounds great! I personally enjoy a more elegant wedding menu as opposed to a boring piece of chicken. It also sounds like it is much more of a high class affair so you are not going to roast a pig as someone suggested. I feel that as long as you have chicken you will be fine having a more daring main dish such as the lamb. I would taste test the lamb though, because it is a tricky dish to make and you don't want ruin the elegance of your wedding with a mushy piece of lamb. For your appetizer/salad I would try the duck salad. The first one sounds like you can reproduce it easier. With the duck you want to make sure that you like the seasonings they are using and how they prepare the duck (level of cooking i.e. rare, medium...) For dessert I would try the first option just because of the flavor the spiced syrup. Your menu sounds lovely and your guests will appreciate something a little our of the ordinary.

  12. awww, i'm sure it's nice to some people but it just does not sound appealing to me. I prefer a nice roast beef or lamb would be much nicer than some of those other things ...and as for desert ..where is all the chocolate and sweets hehe good luck and i am sure not matter what you decide will be perfect!!

  13. It all sounds delicious. What a classy meal you are planning. I wish I could come.  Most caterers will offer to make a vegetarian meal for the few who will want one.

  14. I hate to be a downer here, but I don't think any of that sounds good. As a wedding guest, when I get to the food, I want it to be something I'm used to.

I've never understood why wedding food has to be so fancy. If I get home and someone asks, "What was there to eat at the wedding?" and I can't really remember because of all the fancy names, I'm not impressed.

My opinion: keep it simple and everyone will be happy!
