  1. False because a fn must have a 1-to-1 relation, here you have (5,7) and (5,11)

    g(1) = 1 - 5 = -4

  2. PROBLEM 1:

In a function, a number on the left must only map to one unique value on the right.

    You have:

    (5,7) and (5,11)

This is not a function because 5 can't result in two values of both 7 and 11.

    Answer:

    FALSE

P.S.  It can still be a function if you have repeated values on the right, just not the left.  (1,5) and (2,5) would be okay, but (5,1) and (5,2) would not.

    PROBLEM 2:

    Simply replace x with 1:

    g(x) = x - 5

    g(1) = 1 - 5

    g(1) = -4

    Answer:

    -4
