Thesis statement. I need help. Can somebody show me how to write a thesis statement for an essay on a book?

  1. There is no definite way that a thesis statement has to be written.  You just need to include the main point of what your essay intends to prove.  Also, it can be helpful to include a very vague indication of what evidence you intend to present to demonstrate your theory.  I tend to format my thesis statements something like this:

    In the novel -------- by -------- ---------, the ---------- represents the idea of -----------, particularly in regard to the theme of -----------, as expressed in the life of the character ---------------.



    I just kind of change a few words around, fill in the blanks, and that's basically all there is to a thesis statement.  Good luck with the essay!


  2. A thesis state can be a question or an elaborate sentence which explains what you plan to prove in your argument.  Most essay papers are about arguments.  That is why so many law school students had English undergraduate degrees.  

  3. A thesis statement can be the last sentence of your introductory paragraph. It can either be a summary of what you are going to write about, or proving / arguing what you are going to write or what you've already wrote.
