They can't find the problem but it really hurts and it's been 8 yrs

I've seen 2 dentists, I'm seeing a third tomorrow at noon. (I've only seen different dentists over the last 8 yrs as we've moved house twice).

My back, top, left tooth is agony. I can't eat on it, let any drink move to that side of my mouth, breathe with my mouth open etc as it's so sore. It's like having a nerve exposed all the time. I take Co-codamol and nurofen together for the pain.

It feels as though the filling has fallen out but when my husband has looked at it he says it looks normal except that it has a ulcer on the gum. Oh, the other thing is that the tooth surface feels a little soft and spongy. I'm guessing it's rotting but why can't they see that?

The dentists have x-rayed, filled, re-xrayed, refilled but can't find the problem.

I am going to ask them to take it out tomorrow as I can't take any more.

What can it be?

  1. The way u explained it does sound as if your tooth is rotting. And the ulcer? The dentist must me stupid in order to not c it! ask them to take it out or if they don't say its that  bad switch dentists!

  2. Wow i feel your pain. I am in the same situation and i just asked my dentist to pull it out. It is not worth having it filled or getting a prescription for it if it's an infection and then have it come back some time in the future

  3. you poor thing.

There could be a couple of reasons. 1. there could be cracks in the tooth, as you cannot bite on the tooth with out feeling agony. Some cracks are so small you can only see them through specialised microscopes, in which you need to see a specialist.

    2. the nerve in the tooth is dead. in which a root canal may be neccessary.

The ulcer on the gum may even be a absess which is fluid and bacteria buildin up which can cause extreme pain.

It's a shame the dentists can't find the problem. Taking it out may be the best option if you can't stand the pain and the wait of finding out what it its. Hopefully the dentist you will see tomorrow can help you!

  4. Your tooth sounds like it is dead and may now be abscessed.  The signs and symptoms you are describing is that of a dead tooth.  You can't always see it on an x-ray.  The Doctor needs to listen to you.  He will probably try and talk you into having a root canal and crown, which will end up costing close to two thousand, before you do that read the Root Canal cover-up book or uninformed consent.  A root canal is always chronically infected.  Look up mercola.com and type in root canals, that will give you more of an idea about root canals.  I however would do the partial over a bridge because you would cause trauma to other teeth by crowning them.  If you have the tooth taken out have the dentist cut the tooth in half and show you the nerve, I bet it is complete sclerosed shut.  This would show the tooth had been dead for years.

  5. Sounds like the tooth has an abscess. Any competent dentist should be able to determine the problem.

  6. swish, gargle the mouth with some warm salt water.

gargle with some Oil Of Oregano.

Take a small amount of Oil of Oregano on a daily basis to clear the infection internally.
