They say I owe money--Help please!?

I live in the US.

When I was fifteen, back in 2003, I opened up a bank account with US Bank. I had a job then. And no one cosigned for me. Well, that Christmas, I accidentally over drafted about $2. About three weeks later, I get my statement that said basically, 'You over drafted so US bank charged you $7 a day for each day you are negative.' And it said I owed about three hundred bucks.

My dad went and talked to the bank and he said they got rid of it. Whether he was telling the truth or not, I don't know. But I didn't touch the bank again.

Anyway, I'm now twenty years old and just got a letter stating that they are taking me to a collections agency and that I owe $500 now.

Questions: Since I was a minor at the time, am I liable for this money?

Why did they wait until NOW to take me to an agency?

Do I have to pay this money?

Do I need a lawyer?

What should I DO?

  1. You could not have opened an account at 15 without an adult on there. There must be more to this story that you are not telling.
