  1. Seroquel is not a medicine to mess with. If you suddenly stop taking it you can have awful side effects. Also, that medicine works wonders and  if you weren't having any bad side effects why did you stop taking it? Hey your also a lucky one....seroquel usually make you gain much more weight then 6 lousy pounds. I have taken this medicine and know how well it works....I stopped taking because I was having side effects that were affecting me at work and daily life....I was constantly in a trance. You can easily lose the 6lbs you put on. Just eat heal;thy, drink lots of water and do a little exercise (just walking around is fine....you don't need to go jog 5 miles now). Also you still feel fine because the medicine is still in your system. Wait for it to completely exit your system and then see how you feel.

  2. You must stay on your prescribed medications or you are playing with your life.

  3. Try reading this and getting all the facts and not self medicating. None of us like to take medicine. I have seizures though....so I need to. You are bi-polar so you need to as well......when you get to be smarter than your doctors then you start medicating yourself but until then take your medicine. I am every one of your 5 kids (plus maybe a husband?) would appreciate it very much!

  4. Ummm, yeah, curse those 6 pounds of weight gain. Never mind the fact you are diagnosed as bi-polar!

Jesus people! You can't self diagnose, self medicate and decide when and when you do not want to take your medications. That image alone says everything we need to know about your mental state. Ms. Mommy to 5.

Good lord! Maybe you should have a few more kids; that should fix it.

  5. You haven't said much about you mental health problems.  Like what is it that makes the Dr. think you are bipolar?  Good Doctors don't usually prescribe seroquel for bipolar disorder ("Quetiapine is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia as well as for the treatment of acute manic episodes associated with bipolar I disorder, as either monotherapy or adjunct therapy to lithium or divalproex.") unless you are psychotic. Do NOT stop the mediation if it is helping you and find another therapist.  Have you had a complete physical by a competent medial doctor?  Did you have symptoms of bipolar or other mental health problems before you became pregnant?

I can not say if you are bipolar or not without knowing more about you.  But i have proved in a matter of minutes that some people who have been diagnosed as bipolar were not or could not be diagnosed with bipolar since they either were still using drugs and/or alcohol and/or had not been clean long enough to make a diagnoses.  Still do NOT stop taking the medication until you are assured by another Doctor that you do not need it.

  6. Psychotic episodes are not pre-determinable, although if you truly are bi polar and stopped taking your meds, it could facilitate a psychotic break.  Unless you have an M.D. or a M.D., Ph.D., why would you feel you are qualified to diagnose yourself?  If you are truly concerned that you are NOT bi polar after having been diagnosed bi polar, get a second opinion!  If the second opinion concurs with the first, it might be a good idea to see a therapist who can assist you in accepting the diagnosis so that you will be more apt to be proactive about your health concerns.  Conversely, the second opinion might not agree with the first, in which case, you would be right to feel you were incorrectly diagnosed.

My mother will not accept that she is bi polar.  She could have lived a much richer, fuller life if she'd accepted the diagnosis and either medicated or sought therapy (or both).  As it is, though, she was an abusive parent, unable to ever get along with any of her co-workers and is now on her FIFTH husband.

Honestly, if you are bi polar, you will greatly benefit from treatment.

  7. you are just like my sister...who is also on seroquel...you should read up on that drug did you know it causes liver damage?? you need to stay on the meds. Just because you are okay after 3 days means nothing. If you love you baby you will stay on it. My sister lost her child to me because she was doing exactly what you are right now. Going off your meds. Now the 7 month old , beautiful baby girl is in my custody and has no chance of ever being back in my sisters.

I hope you really take a good look at this situation. Don't punish your child for a mental illness you can easily control on prescription drugs!

  8. First of all, 6 pounds is not a ton of weight. Don't make an issue of it unless you continue to gain weight. It is not really even considered a significant gain and could be attributed to many other things.

More importantly, these are some serious meds you are messing with and changing them without the help of your doctor puts you at serious risk physically and emotionally. If you want to try life off the meds, especially after what may have been triggered by post partum chemistry, then talk to your doctor. If you have been stable for a while, they will help you safely go off meds and monitor your condition to make sure you stay stable off the meds and if you aren't, get you back on something sooner rather than later so you don't have another psychotic break.

As for how long to a relapse, well, it depends... 3 days is not enough time to tell though. It took you months to get to a psychotic break when you got there. I suspect you will start noticing symptoms of going manic - if you are open to seeing them - within a few weeks. Talk to your doctor about what to look for because each case is different and your doctor will have a better idea of what you should look for.

Over and over, I can't emphasize enough - talk to your doctor. Even if you feel that you have broken the trust by going off without the doctor knowing, go back, unless you give them a good reason not to treat you, most doctors have your best interest at heart and will see you through what you are going through. While this doesn't condone it, you will not be the first bipolar patient who has taken herself off meds and your doctor will work with that.

My knowledge comes from being bipolar and knowing what it is like as well as working with doctors who were concerned with helping me.
