Not one bit.  No one can tell the future, especially the Mayans (they missed their own demise by a few centuries).  They had quite a few calenders, all based upon cycles of the Earth.  To say their calender ends on that date isn't entirely accurate.

you are talking about  the Mayans, there culture disappeared , and the reason is still unknown , you have to understand what that meant back in that day ,yes there culture "world " ended  way back .there "world " was the place they lived .however it was probably a natural catastrophe ( lack of food, disease, pirating from other cultures) that made them move and relocate ,so yes the world they knew ended .

I think that has been wrongly interpretted. The Mayans have said this before and they talked of an end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one. They command respect too, even though they were pretty old school they had the most advanced calendar ever.

I think this could mean a post oil world where things will be very different. (Better for most species except humans perhaps?)
