i have tried EVERYTHING!!!! i cleaned my room, did extra chores, looked at breeders, and took EXTRA care of my dog.

they keep bringing up the bunny that i had WHEN I WAS 8!!!

everytime i go to petsmart, i take forever saying stuff i know about the chinchillas, and look at them for like 20 MINUTES. and when we walk away, i do that long, loud sigh. i really sucks because i have names and every thing picked out for them.

AND WHEN I WENT TO PETSMART, I SAW THAT NOW YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PERMIT TO OWN ONE, THAT IS SOO STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

help me please!!! i want this pet more than i have ever wanted any thing (other than my dog).

  1. Chinchillas are great.  I just got one in May.  They are great pets.  I don't know anything about sugar gliders.  You don't need a permit for a Chinchilla.  I got mine from PetSmart and I didn't need to get a permit.  Even if they tell you to get one they aren't going to check up on you.  At PetSmart they are $150.  8 years old is young for your own pet but I would assume that you are a lot older now.  Maybe they are worried that you won't care properly for your Chinchilla or you will grow tired of it.  Chinchillas can live 15 years so you really want to be sure.  Why don't you start out with a pet that doesn't live as long like a hamster or guinea pig to show your parents that you are responsible.  Your parents probably don't want to get stuck with the care if you grow tired of a Chinchilla or sugar glider.  I have had to find new homes for many pets because my daughter grew tired of them.

  2. I can't really blame your parents. This is their choice.

Since you've researched them, you must know Chins have a very long lifespan. Where will you be in 15 years? What about when you go to college? Who will take care of your pet then? When an animal has such a long lifespan you should wait until you're an adult to get one, so you know your life will be settled and you'll be able to keep it that long. Chins also cost a lot of money. They need a large cage, dust baths, food, water bottle, food dish, lots of bedding, toys.. that can be pricey. Maybe your parents just don't have the money for that right now.

I don't really know what we can do to help you here. Be happy with your dog, and give him extra love. Some parents won't even let their kids have one pet.

  3. What's your question? Help you what? We can't change your parents. Besides, the fact is that chinchillas are really wild animals. They shouldn't be anyone's pet, let alone a girl who's priorities are so askew that she wants this more than she's ever wanted anything.
