Hi, I'm a 17 year old girl and I was at my therapist's today and he wants me to get blood tested by my family physician dude because he and my parents don't believe I've been taking my meds.

I'm not worried about that part, because I actually have been taking my meds, and I'm trying not to be worried about my needle phobia part.. haha..

I figure since they are testing for that they won't notice or won't care about other stuff right?

aka.. will they find evidence i've been drinking and smoking and/or other things? i only smoke cigs recreationally maybe one or two every week or so, and i got drunk three times in the last two weeks.. and other stuff is pills so i don't know if they can even test for that stuff

i just don't want my parents to be like rawr, you're taking your meds, but this other stuff?!?!

ya know?

so, should i be worried?

  1. no if you drink and smoke cigs theres no problem it will not come up but stop drinking like 2 days before the test

  2. drinking and smoking won't come up =]

but if you smoke weed it will show!

  3. no cuase there is a thing called patient confidentity which means that he can't tell unless you say he can i think.

  4. just do it, it wont hurt

  5. The blood test will only show results that they test for. If they're testing specifically for just your meds then you have no worries.

If they're testing for other substances, along with your meds, then, yes, you do have to be worried. They have certain tests for barbituates, alcohol, etc. If you doctor indicates he wants these done then they will be done.

You are figuring wrong if you think that they won't notice or care about the other stuff. If they're worried about your meds, as a parent, I can guarantee they'll want your blood tested for other things as well. It's called being a parent and that's our job. It's what we do.

If you live in the US, your parents CAN get your test results as you are still considered a minor under the law. Therefore, your doctor WILL let them know ALL the results. There is no patient confidentiality between a doctor, a minor and their parents. Once you turn 18, then your parents would have to get your permission to get your results but only if you have your own insurance and are living on your own.
