Theyskens’ Theory to remain in the United States under the watchful eye of trainer Shug McGaughey
The 3-year-old filly, Theyskens’ Theory, was a neck away from ultimate glory, as she found how harsh racing could be “the hard way” when Winter Memories turned in a neck winning thriller over Theyskens’ Theory in the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes on 17 September,
2011, at Belmont Park.
It is decided that Theyskens’ Theory will stay in the United States and not go back to England, and here she will be under the conditioning of trainer Shug McGaughey.
The daughter of Bernardini, out of Heat Lightning by Summer Squall, Theyskens’ Theory is owned by Andrew Rosen.
Andrew Rosen has a few horses with McGaughey who will keep the filly and train her for her next possible start, the Grade 1 First Lady on 8 October, 2011 at Keeneland Racetrack.
Theyskens’ Theory was coming off a win in the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes, and Bernardini filly has a lot to offer and to see her past performances, one can’t help but feel that if provided sustainability, the filly will bring down big names because there
is something about her.
Prior to the Garden City Stakes, Theyskens’ Theory ran in the Atlanta Stakes on turf at Sandown, Great Britain under jockey D Bonilla, and nailed the 1 mile 40 yards race on 20 August, 2011, defeating closest rivals Modeyra and Brevity, who finished second
and third respectively.
Andrew Rosen showed confidence in Shug McGaughey when he handed over Theyskens’ Theory for further training in the United States, and he has also sent Theyskens’ Theory’s half brother Arnell to be in Shug McGaughey.
The 4-year-old colt, Arnell, will run in the $35,000 claiming race on 23 September, 2011.
Theyskens’ Theory has once before run on American soil, when she participated in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs.
On 5 November, 2010, Theyskens’ Theory took on the likes of Awesome Feather, R Heat Lightning and Delightful Mary over a distance of 1 1/16 miles. The turf filly was forced to run on unfamiliar surface, dirt, as she rolled in sixth that day.
