Thiago Alves: I just want to put up a great fight against Martin Kampmann – UFC news
Thiago Alves, the Brazilian mixed martial artist, in a recent interview vowed  to beat Martin Kampmann, adding that he is not really bothered of the bout's outcome since his main motive is to offer a good show of strength and pound to the fans.
Martin and Thiago are scheduled to headline Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC’s) pay-per-view ‘UFC on FX 2’ which will be televised on March 2, 2012. The bout will be a five-round non title one at the Allphones Arena situated in Sydney, New South Wales,
Australia.
The duo is considered almost equal when it comes to brawling abilities and the tendency to grab commanding win over opponents. Both men rule the welterweight division and are ranked alongside names such as George St. Pierre, Rick Story, Josh Koscheck and
others.
Thiago has been in a total 27 brawls and has emerged victorious in 19. He has collected 11 of his wins by knockout, two by submissions, and six by decision. Well known as ‘Pitbull’, Alves is a knockout specialist, a brawler who does not prefer the ground
style and relies heavily on his hardened fists and powerful kicks.
Martin, on the contrary, is an all-rounder. He has entered the octagon a total 23 times and came out triumphant in 18 bouts. Infamous as the ‘Hitman’, Martin has grabbed seven wins by knockout, six by submission, and four by either split or unanimous decision.
Both men have pinned huge names and are considered most lethal brawlers in the division. Martin has collected wins over Rick Story, Paulo Thiago, Carlos Condit, Jorge Rivera and others. Thiago, on the other hand, boasts hefty victories such as Josh Koscheck,
Matt Hughes, Chris Lytle, John Howard and others.
Thiago, while expressing his views on the unsuccessful title shot against George St. Pierre, said that he was not well prepared for the brawl against the best welterweight in the world. Alves revealed that he was on a seven-win rally and obliterated many
big names but Pierre is someone else, you have to get special training to take on a man of such calibre.
When asked as to what strategy he has against Martin, the 28-year-old commented, “I know I've got the power and explosion advantage. We're going to try and break Martin Kampmann. It's going to be my fight. I'm very concerned with what I'm going to do to
him.”
While mentioning his sheer determination in grabbing a win, Alves said, “I’m going to try to break him whether it’s in the stand-up or on the ground. I have all the respect in the world for Martin Kampmann and his camp, but I truly believe that I'm going
to break him, it doesn't matter where the fight goes.”
