Thiago-Bruno make it to the Main Draw of Mazury Orlen Grand Slam – Volleyball News
Brazil’s Bruno Schmidt and Thiago Santos clawed their way to the influential Main Draw stage of the Mazury Orlen Grand Slam men’s beach volleyball tournament, which kicked off on Tuesday, August 14.
The day-1 of the tournament featured the Country Quota Playoffs, while men’s qualifying matches took centre stage on Wednesday. Thiago and Bruno were supposed to play two matches of the Qualification Tournament. However, they earned a bye in the first fixture
and got to play only one match. They took full advantage of the opportunity and clinched success in the qualifying match, which allowed them to reserve a berth in the Main Draw of the tournament.
Quite recently, Bruno teamed up with Thiago as his former partner Benjamin Insfran decided to join Harley Marques. The duo had a very short time to train and practice together. Nevertheless, Bruno/Thiago developed a great chemistry between them and worked
out an amazing performance in the Brazilian Country Playoffs on Tuesday. Interestingly, they were challenged by Benjamin-Harley in the CQs. Bruno/Thiago proved to be better and clawed their way to the Qualification Tournament after beating the competitors.
Speaking of the qualifying match, they edged out Czech Republic’s Jan Dumek and Martin David in straight sets and booked a slot in the Main Draw. The final set scores were 21-11, 22-20.
Bruno looked very confident after scoring first win of the tournament. He shared his thoughts in the following manner: “We’ve had a good start and now we have to think about our next match. It is a new start for us and we have to play match by match. We
are a new team and so don’t have too much pressure on us, so we’ll see how the tournament goes for us.”
Speaking of his former team-partner, he added: “Benjamin was invited by Harley and I didn’t think twice about playing with Thiago. We only trained for the first time on Monday.”
In the next run, Bruno and Thiago have been placed in Pool L alongside duos from Norway, Italy, and Brazil. They will be challenged by compatriot duo of Pedro-Marcio Araujo in the first fixture of the Main Draw on Thursday. According to the set formula
