Thiago Machado Pereira captures Men’s 200m IM gold: Day two – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro
Thiago Machado Pereira of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM captured gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on the second day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Wednesday, April 25.
Pereira, who won gold medal of the same event at the 2004 World Championships, continued his thrilling form in the playoff of the four-lap IM discipline and snared gold medal of the event.
With his commendable efforts, he went full rampant in the 200m event and touched the finishing end for gold medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 57.11 seconds.
His superb effort was trailed by Henrique Rodrigues of FFC/RJ, who remained 1.80 seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 58.91 seconds.
The third position of the discipline was secured by Andre Schultz of CRF/RJ, who was almost 2.50 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.45 seconds.
Schultz was trailed by Renato Britto Barufi of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who remained nearly two strokes slower from his foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing end for fourth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 01.78 seconds.
Barufi was trailed by Diogo Oliveira Yabe of FIAT/MINAS, who remained only 0.30 seconds slower from his former finisher, who secured fifth position of the discipline by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 02.08 seconds.
His gruelling effort was followed by Evandro Vinicius Silva of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who stayed 1.96 seconds slower from the fifth position holder and tapped the wall with an  effort of 2 minutes and 04.04 seconds.
He was chased by his team-member, Lucas Fontes Lima Fragoso, who ended his swim in seventh place by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.90 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was secured by Gabriel Maruyama Ogawa of ECP/SABESP, who stayed 0.77 seconds behind and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 05.67 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all planned events while the tournament will conclude on April 29.
